In addition to getting a cardio exam from your doctor, here are some more things you can do to reduce your risk of heart disease and keep your ticker running smoothly:
- Maintain healthy body weight.
- Stop smoking. Talk to us about our effective smoking cessation program.
- Make physical activity a regular part of your daily routine. 30 min. per day walking, biking, swimming, etc.
- Manage your stress levels.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption. We are able to direct you to community support organizations if needed.
- Make healthy food choices. Examples:
- Choose low-fat dairy products.
- Opt for lean meats such as fish or poultry.
- Aim for at least 5 servings of fruits or vegetables each day.
- Reduce your sodium intake. Try using onions, garlic, and spices such as cumin, curry, and basil for cooking instead of salt.
